USA is a low-tax economy Income tax

Income tax is generally collected in one of two ways:

1 )   with holding.
2 )   through payments directly by taxpayers.

The USA is a low-tax economy. Income tax, although paid on both federal and state level, is therefore also relatively low. Nevertheless, everyone working in the USA, employees and employers alike, needs a Tax Identification Number. In most cases, however, your Social Security Number simply functions as your tax number as well.

As a foreigner working in L.A., you need to pay social security tax as well, which constitutes 7.65% of your salary. Social security contributions are automatically deducted and go towards any retirement benefits you may be entitled to from the time you spent working in the USA

All employees in the US need a Social Security Number, which for most expats, as we alluded to earlier, also serves as their Tax Identification Number. If you are coming to the USA to both live and work on a permanent basis, you should request a Social Security Number when applying for your immigrant visa. For a detailed description of the necessary steps, visit the website of the Social Security Administration (SSA).
